My G Grandfather William b. 1833, his parents John b.c.1803 & Mary (Maria?) nee Sneyd b. c. 1808, siblings: Anna Maria b.1831, Benjamin b. 1836, Katherine b. 1838, Francis b. 1840, Jane b.1843, John b. 1845, George b. 1849 left Ireland for Jamaica in the 1850's for a few years (5 or 6). They all arrived in Ontario, Canada in the late 1850s. John Sr. reportedly was with a Constabulary member and served in various places in Ireland - Belfast, Galway and Kilkenny. Most of the children were born in Kilkenny. Supposedly he was doing government work in Jamaica but am unable to trace them there. If anyone can help in finding exact places or ANY information on this family in Ireland or help me to understand what John's job might have been in Ireland and/or Jamaica it would be greatly appreciated. He is not listed in Herlihy's book The Royal Irish Constabulary. Thank you!
