Searching for Ancestral information on my great great grandfather, Alexander Macdonald. Born circa 1815 in Scotland or Northern Ireland. In 1863, when his daughter Sophia Macdonald (1844-1893),(my great grandmother), married William Moore at the Presbyterian Church in Belfast, Alexander is on the Marriage Certificate as 'farmer, Ballymoney, Northern Ireland'.
Alexander accordingly was married twice. Other children: DR H. (Henry?) Wilgar Macdonald, born 1867 Father: Alexander Macdonald Mother: Jane Malcomson
Dr H. Wilgar Macdonald, studied Medicine in 1894, in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and then practiced in Newtownards, County Down.
Dr James Alexander Macdonald, born circa 1844. Studied Medicine at Queens College, Belfast, and resided at Glendford Place, Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland. He was a renowned sportsman (sport thought to have been Lacrosse), and he played for Ireland against Scotland, 14 times between 1875 and 1884.
Dr James Alexander Macdonald then settled in Taunton, Somerset, England, and was attached to the staff of the County Hospital there. He practiced medicine for nearly 50 years and was Chairman of the British Medical Associtation. His address in Somerset was 19 East Street, Taunton. His Obitiuary appeared May 2nd in the Medical Press and Circular.
Jane Macdonald (believed to be sister of Alexander Macdonald), married Isaac Moore of Ballymoney and their son Isaac Moore was born in 1818, Ballymoney, County Down, Northern Ireland.
There were several other Mcdonalds (one is believed to have been called Malcolm) who were sons of Alexander Macdonald. If anyone sees any connection to their own Macdonald family, I would be pleased to hear from them. Thank you.
