Hi, I am trying to trace my Husbands' grandmother. Her name was Emmie/Emmis/Emmy Yeomans, living in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. She was born around 1900, she had a daughter (my husbands' mother) Vera Yeomans born July 1917. Vera was put into a catholic orphanage at the age of 5 in Birmingham. That is all the information I have been able to find out from the orphanage. I do know that at the time of Vera's birth her mother was living at 9 Daniel Street which according to the Electoral Role was occupied by an absent voter by the name of Hubert Locker who was either Military or naval. Could he have been Vera's father? perhaps Emmie was his live in housekeeper I don't know and why was Vera put in a home at the age of 5. She was never adopted she lived at the home till she was old enough to leave and start work. I hope someone out there can help me as my husband is desperate to find out what happened, unfortunately his mother is now deceased.
