I'm still searching for information about my gr.grandmother and her parents and siblings. Her name is Ethel May Aitken she was born in 1895 in Gateshead, Co. Durham. She married (or did she?) a John/Jack Watson who died in WW1 in 1918. Daughter, Lillian Isabell Watson born 11/20/1911 Gateshead, birth registered 1912. Then Ethel came to the USA and married/remarried here , first child born 1916. Ethel had 2 brothers Robert who came to NY,USA and George who stayed in ENG. and 6 sisters, 5 of which stayed in ENG. Ethel died in Rochester, NY Nov. 20,1933 at age 38.
From what family tells me her mother was Jenny Geddes, married a James Aitken had a pub near the water in Gateshead as far as we know, and they had a large family together.Recently found mom may have been named Janet Aitken and Ethel's sister Lily Ada married Benjamin Nicholson in ENG. possibly Gateshead. I've found records of Benjamin, Lily & son Ernest coming thru Ellis Island from Gateshead in 1909 to visit cousin(s)in MA. and Benjamin alone in 1919 and Lily;son,Ernest;dau.Ruby in 1920 to live here. There are also family ties to Nicholas & Jean? McGuckin & family also in Gateshead as of 1950.
Would love to hear from any of these families out there, descendants, etc still in the area or anyone that might be connected or know anything about them. thanks!
