Grandparents Charles Henry and Elizabeth Agnes Ann Bateman, (formerly Leach) of 29 Garaint Rd Downham, near Bromley Kent. (both are now deceased) Lorraine has a certificate called the London Chamber of Commerce Certificate in English and Handwriting. She worked as a typist and telephone receptionist prior to 1967. Leigh Gary was accepted by Barnardos for adoption on 6 February 1967 and was allocated to St Christopher's Nursery, Penbury Road Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Lorraine took him there herself on 17th of February. The Matron was called Miss Hilton. Early in March a letter was sent to Lorraine asking if she still wished him to be placed for adoption and she replied on the 10th of March that she had given it plenty of thought and that she felt unable to have Michael. She asked for a photograph of him and asked about his new parents. Leigh Gary was placed for adoption on 1st of April 1967 and was named MICHAEL JEREMY HUTCHINGS. The placement was supervised by a worker called Mrs. K.A. Wright. a letter was sent to Lorraine after 23 Oct 1967 telling her that he had been legally adopted and that he was well and happy. His adoptive parents wrote a note to Barnardos in January 1968 reporting good progress. They enclosed a note and a photograph for Lorraine. (He has that same photo this day) The records end with a visit to Barnardos in 1970. Barnardos state that they have had no contact with Lorraine since the Adoption order was made, thus leaving one to believe that eh photograph of Leigh at one year old was not received by Lorraine. Lorraine married Colin Ray Churcher (son of Willian John Churcher)on 21 December of 1968. They resided at 88 Albony Road S.E.I. L Churcher and P Shinner stood up for the couple. Lorraine and Colin had three children. Colin Elliot Churcher, registered in Lambeth March quarter 1970, Anthony Charles Churcher registered in Southark March quarter 1973 and Amanda Elizabeth Churcher registered in Southark, June quarter 1979. Michael joined the military when he was 16. He moved to Canada in mid to late 1980's. He has three children ( two daughters and a son) and would sincerely like to re-unite with anyone from his birth family.
