PLEASE NOTE ~ In answer to the question posted here Friday 3rd November 2000. To avoid any confusion I would like all Birth Mums searching, to know that their as been no new laws passed, here in the UK, giving them the right of access to Adoption Files. Several Groups are currently known to be campaigning,on behalf of the Adoptee & Birth mothers, for better access to information, meanwhile a Birth mum is only entitled to recieve, from the various Adoption Agencys/Social Services, what is classed as Non-Identifiable information. That entitlement tends very much to differ from one department to another, as such I would advice all those requiring it to ensure their requests and responses to it are in writing, and that any refusal from the Authority responsible should be challenged.
