David Williams formerly Hartland UK Feb 17, 2002
Dorothy Mary HARTLAND (maiden name)
DOB approx. 1920
Dorothy gave birth to David HARTLAND (now David John Williams) on 2 June 1940 at 388 Southmead Road (part of Southmead Hospital at the time). Dorothy was in Mount Hope Mother and Baby Home from 16 March 1940 (Salvation Army Home, Ashley Hill in Bristol) in readiness for the birth but there must have been complications because David was born in Southmead Hospital. David eventually went back to Mount Hope where Dorothy cared for him. David left Mount Hope and was put in the Waifs & Strays Home, Seagry Manor, Chippenham in May 1941 where Dorothy paid 4 shillings weekly for his keep - a lot of money in those days.

Dorothy, it has been told (aged 21 at the onset/gave birth), worked and lived in Mount Hope for a further 14 years. A marriage search has been carried out up to and including 1955 and nothing has been found. Can anyone shed any light on any of this? Salvation Army cannot give any information at all - once again moralistic because of illegitimacy. David was eventually adopted into the Williams family officially on 10 May 1944.
