seeking news of pilot officer pat nanton and crew who took off from gianicles in egypt in a wellington torpedo bomber to attack an enemy convoy about late august 1942 and failed to return.did they perhaps force land and become POW's or what? I did my operational training with this crew at Harwell in june/july 42 and we flew a new wellington out to egypt i was front airgunner and we were posted to 38 sqdn, which because they were torpedo bombers did not have a front turret so i was transferred to another crew.Pat had come from bermuda to join the raf and train as a pilot, and was as black as the ace of spades.he was a buddy as were the rest of our crew,a white south african,a welshman and a scot in addition to me.when i read of the racism of today,i think of pat and how he came over to fight and probaly gave his life for this country.thank you for the space on your site,i would be very grateful if anyone can come up with anything on that missing crew.
