Searching for KELLY (POSSIBLY HENRY JOHN) who fathered my grandfather illegitimately. His name was Albert Edward Bennet (change to A.E. Dyer in 1916 when his mother married George Dyer). His brother was also Kelly's son (a year younger born in 1903 called Harry or Henry). My great-grandmother was very young when she had both the boys. She lived in Edmonton, North London and Kelly came from Enfield (or vice versa). Her name was Clara Eleanor Bennett. She stayed with Kelly for about 2 years and then returned with my grandfather to her parents. She then moved to Penge SE20 and all my family come from there (on my mothers side). I never ever met my grandfather (Albert) as he was cruel to my Nan (Edith Alice)and they divorced before I was born. Since my Nan died in 1988, I have taken up genealogy and in 1999 looked up Albert's second wife Rose, who lives on Kent coast, she gave me Albert's memoirs "The Ups and Downs of my Life" by Albert E. Dyer (written in 1977). It states he was born to Kelly in Feb 1902 and not May 1902 as his birth certificate states. The delay in registering him forced Clara to lie about his birth. Kelly used to be a greengrocer/costermonger in Camden/Edmonton/Enfield and go to The Admirals Man Pub or the Brecknock Arms (near to where they lived). The two brothers were very "put upon" and virtually ran the greengrocers shop, going to market and running the shop, whilst Kelly supped in the pub. Albert left him and returned to Penge when he was 13 (1915) to find his Mum and told her Kelly had forced him to leave school a year early etc. Any help from these clues I'd be so grateful!
Also - my father's family SPURGE or SPURGEON (as it used to be). A large family with many brothers and sisters of my other grandfather (Ernest Victor SPURGE), whom I never met! My father is Victor Nicholson SPURGE dob 10.4.1924). Ernest Victor dob 1924, married Miss ? Nicholson. This my father's middle name. Any more Spurge's around in the Peckham, Norbury, Surrey, Marylebone areas who are researching the SPURGE's??
