I am doing research into an Eleanor (Elinor, Eliner, Ellen, Helen - all documented as same person in Plymouth, MA) Newton. Newton is her married name. She was born circa 1597 and married to John Newton in England. There is a record of May 13, 1621, of "John Newton and Helen, his wife, had a son Jeremy baptized...at St. Nicholas, Colchester, Essex." In 1623 Ellen came to New Plymouth without parents, husband, or children. It is likely that she was a widow and that her husband John Newton died between May 13, 1621, (when their son was baptized) and May, 1623 (when the Anne sailed from England). It is not known what happened to son Jeremy. He either died or stayed behind with friends or family in Colchester.
Would anyone have any information connected to this matter or could you point me in the right direction to research it further?
