|I have hit a brickwall with my Family tracing. ALERT POTTERTON HARTLEY was born October 5, 1864 at Bedford Place, Harrogate, Yorkshire. His mother gave her name as Ann Hartley, no father listed. She also gave an address as Drake Street in Bradford, Yorkshire. I have found no trace of either of thgem until Albert married in 1896.
Albert Potterton Hartley married Annie Elizabeth Waddington in Bradford in 1896. They had 3 children between 1897 and 1901 - Harold, Wilfred and Ivy. Annie Elizabeth (Waddington) Hartley died in November of 1903. Albert emigrated to Canada in 1905 (I believe). Sometime between 1897 and 1899, Albert also changed his name from ALBERT POTTERTON HATLEY to WILLIAM ALBERT HARTLEY. The Hartley's lived on or near Thirsby Street in Bradford from 1896 until 1905.
The only clues I have are -
A Sarah A. Hartley, born 1841 in Stanley, was listed on the 1861 Census for Bradford, single and a servant. No other details known. I have found a Sarah Ann Hartley, daughter of John Hartley from Stanley born June 6, 1841 but have not connected to her.
Also, Ivy Hartley was left in the care of her "Uncle & Aunt, Joe & Martha Moore" in Bradford when her father emigrated. She lived with them until about 1915. She was told that Martha Moore was here Dad's sister. I believe that ANN HARTLEY may have married sometime after Albert's birth in 1864 and raised more family but I have no idea who she married. No clue as to Martha's maiden name.
If anyone has any knowledge of this family please email me.
