attention belgian surfers:seeking news of my father,rene
joseph van der beken,formerly of ASSE belgium.he married my
mother,ruth edna philipps at holborn in london on 25feb
1919.at that time his occupation being given as private
belgian army medical corps.his fathers name also appears
on the marriage certificate,leon felix van der beken,his
occupation given as builder.
i was born on 22 feb 1920 at addlestone in surrey and
christened francis felix joseph grismond van der beken,not
the name i am known by as i took on my present identity
prior to joining the royal air force early 1939.i can never
recall seeing my father,but remember being whisked across to
a neighbours bungalow from where myself and mother were
living as for reasons unbeknown to me she did'nt want my
father to have any contact with me.i would be about 2-3
years old at that time,my parents being in the process of
divorcing,so assume they must have split up shortly after
my birth.my mother refused to tell me anything of my dad,
saying it was best i did'nt know,so i dropped the subject.
she has been deceasd some years now,so i feel free to try
and find out something about my roots,so if anyone can help
it would be very much appreciated.
