I am trying to solve a family mystery. If you are a KIRKE or a THORNTON you may be able to help me. My grandfather was born William Kirke in 1892. He had a brother Fred who was a postal worker (DOB about 1874) he had a step sister and step brother Minnie Thornton and Walter Thornton. All were in an orphanage or home of some sort. The puzzle is that when grandpa arrived in Canada he was William Kirke, he served in the army as this name but when he and his wife returned to Belleville, Ont after the first war he had changed his name to Walter Thornton and no one knew about his real name being William Kirke until it turned up by chance. I would like to try to trace the other members of the family. We think Minnie may have married in 1906 or so. If anyone can help solve this mystery please contact me at pniesiobedzki@hotmail.com
