looking for descendants of Samuel and Esther [nee Johnston] Speers/Spears/Spiers etc. through children: Martha 'Speers' b: 1861 Embledon-in 1881 was 20 and at step-grandfather Thomas Johnston's home; William 'Spears' 1865 Bolton-in 1881 was 15 spprentice miller boarding with Jonathan Robinson and family at Birkby Mill, Crosscanonby; Margaret Ann 'Spiers' 1868 Bassenthwaite-in 1881 was in Union Workshouse at Cockermouth with younger sister Jane 'Speers' bap. 1871 Basssenthwaite. Samuel's mother was Martha nee Shields born Co. Down, Ireland and his father was Alexander, a farmer who died before 1851 in Ireland. Martha married Thomas Johnston in Cumberland and died there.
