Board Name: Scotland
Christine Baldwin Hastings, New Zealand May 09, 2001
daughter of Samuel Walker, born Greenoch, June 28, 1913. Sam had a brother (Edward James Douglas Walker). Both qualified to come to New Zealand under the 'Flock House Scheme' - a group that acknowledged the input of the British Navy to protecting NZ wool interests during WW1 - and brought the youths of those in the navy who were killed or injured in the war to NZ to train as farmers. Samuel also had a sister who joined up for service in England - name unknown, possibly Ellen, Marion, Jennifer or Jean. Their father, Captain John Walker was captain of a ship that went down in the Irish Sea during WW1. It's wreck was found when a submarine sank and landed on top of the ship between the two world wars. Any info - name of the ship, contacts for family members etc. would be appreciated. Samuel fathered 6 children here in NZ and died in 1970.
