Seeking information about a couple from the Glasgow area (name unknown) who had in their custody for 9 or 10 months a baby girl named Helen Canning or possibly Ellen, birthdate September 21, 1952, born in Glasgow. I understand that they tried to adopt the baby, who had been given for adoption by birthmother, Christine Canning, but were successfully fought in a court case by the maternal grandparents of the child. Custody returned to the mother(raised by grandparents, James and Mary Canning). Lawyers name was Summerville. Understand it is in the lawbooks of 1952 or 1953 as the first case where a child was returned, after attempted adoption, or being signed away. Anyway, if you are out there, would like to thank you, hear from you. I understand the pain you must have felt having to part with a 10 month old baby,(age when returned to grandparents) being a parent myself, and am so sorry you were put through it. If anyone knows of this couple, I would like to hear how they are, but don't mention it to them if it would cause them pain being reminded.
