McDONALD SOPHIA and ALEXANDER McDONALD
Searching for ancestral information regarding my great grandmother, Sophia McDonald, thought to have been born probably in Ardclach, Nairn, Scotland. Her father was Alexander McDonald. Sophia died on 12th April, 1893 at the age of 49 (born circa 1844).
Sophia McDonald married William Moore, farmer of Craigantlet, County Down Northern Ireland on 30th January, 1863, at May Street, Presbyterian Church, in Belfast. On the Marriage Certificate, Sophia's father is listed as Alexander McDonald, farmer of Ballymoney, County Down, Northern Ireland. Unfortunately, the Irish Certificates do not state the name of the mother.
Witnesses at wedding were William Graham and Mary Graham.
Mary Graham was later to marry William Moore's brother, John Moore, farmer of Craigantlet, County Down, Northern Ireland.
Alexander McDonald had brothers, Dr Malcolm McDonald and Dr Wilgar McDonald. One of his other brothers died in a drowning accident and still another, was secretary to the Board of Directors of the Belfast Bank.
According to family tradition, Alexander McDonald was married twice - wives' names currently unknown.
