NISBETS OR TAYLORS FROM TARBOLTON, SCOTLAND. Hello from America. I have done family research and would love to find some "cousins" in Scotland or wherever! My Taylors and Nisbets were all originally from the Tarbolton, Ayshire area. My great-great-great grandfather John Taylor's (b.1780) brothers were James Taylor (b.1779) and William (b.1789) Taylor. James married Marion Reid (from Galston). His son James (b.1802) was a farmer at #8 Littlehill & he married Helen Shaw (from Riccarton) and they had 11 children. Their eldest was John (b.1823)and he inherited the farm & married Ann Mitchell (from Kilmarnock) and they had 6 children. His eldest was James (b.1848) and he became cattle dealer @ #6 Littlehill.
My g-g-g-grandfather John married Janet Hyslop (from Craigie)and they had 4 children: Margaret (b.1803), James (b.1809), John (b.1811) and Hugh (b.1814). Hugh is my g-g-grandfather and was a master builder. Hugh married Margaret Nisbet (b.1815) in Tarbolton on 9/21/1838. Hugh & Margaret had three sons that I can document, William Taylor (b.c.1840) who was a mercantile banker and wed Cecilia Watt in 1867 and had one dtr, Margaret (b.1869); Hugh Nisbet Taylor (b.c.1843) who wed Jean Finlayson Shirlaw in 1865 and they had one dtr, Margaret Nisbet Taylor in 1869, and my great-grandfather, John Taylor (b.9/22/1847)who was a master grocer and lived at 31 George St., Glasgow at the time of his wedding to Charlotte Strachan (b.1852 in Alloa).
John and Charlotte had my grandfather, James Strachan Taylor in 1877 while they lived at 25 Smith Street, Kinning Park, Glasgow. They emigrated to the Manchester, England area where they had Maggie Taylor (b.C.1879), John Taylor (b.C.1881) and Robert Taylor (b.C.1883). My grandfather James Strachan Taylor met my grandmother, Sara Jane Ince in Manchester, they married in 1903, had two daughters, emigrated to the U.S. in 1909, had my mother and her brother here. Any Taylor relatives over there? Please e-mail me, would love to hear from you!
Now to the Nisbets: my great-great-grandmother Margaret Nisbet (b.1815 in Tarbolton) had sisters Sarah(b.1816), Mary (b.1818), Elisabeth (b.1824) & Agnes (b.1826/7)and two brothers, Hugh (b.1820) and Robert (b.1822).I HAVE FOUND A GREAT-GREAT-GRANDAUGHTER OF ELISABETH, LIVING IN NEW ZEALAND, AND WE WOULD LOVE TO FIND MORE COUSINS! Margaret's parents were Hugh Nisbet (b.1789) and Jean Finlayson or Findlay. Hugh had 3 sisters: Jean (b.1784), Margaret (b.1786) and Sarah (b.1787), and three brothers: Robert (b.1792) and twins James & William (b.1796). All lived in Tarbolton.
IF THERE ARE ANY TAYLOR'S OR NISBET'S OUT THERE WHO ARE RELATED TO THE ABOVE, PLEASE CONTACT ME VIA E-MAIL. MY SISTER & I ARE COMING TO SCOTLAND IN JUNE 2001 AND WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU!
THANKS SO MUCH!
