SOPHIA MACDONALD/MCDONALD:
Searching for ancestral information about my great grandmother, Sophia Macdonald/McDonald. The spelling appears differently on various Marriage/Death Certificates of her children.
Sophia was born about 1841 - whereabouts unknown.
Married: WILLIAM MOORE (1827-1910) in 1860.
William was a farmer from near Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland. Sophia died in 1890, Newtownards, County Down.
I know absolutely nothing about her family. I can't find records for her in Ireland, therefore she must have come from Scotland. She was only 19 when she married William Moore and he was then 33 - so it is likely that he travelled to Scotland.
Their children's names include:
1. ELLEN MOORE
2. JAMES MOORE born about 1862- 1941
3. ANNA ELIZABETH born 1864 - married ANDREW BOWDEN
4. THOMAS MOORE 1871-1958
5. MARTHA JANE MOORE 1875-1964 - married PERCY NEALE BOWREY
6. MARY SOPHIA 1876-1957 - married JAMES ALEXANDER TAGGART
7. GRACE MOORE 1878-1956 - married JOHN KENWELL KIRKPATRICK
8. WILLIAM JOHN ALEXANDER MOORE born 1890
9. ROBERT MOORE 1881-1957
There were 3 other male Moore children whose names are currently unknown. 5 of the Moore males, represented Ireland against Canada in Lacrosse probably in the early early 1900's. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
