I descend from Allan McDonald, b. abt 1812, N. Uist, Inverness, son of Archibald and Margaret of N. Uist.
Family stories say we have 6 generations of the given name Allan in our lines, and that Allan (b, 1812) came to Nova Scotia when he was about 9 years old. there is also a mention of Benbecula, but whether our ancestors lived there or came from the port to Nova Scotia, I don't know.
Allan m. Sarah McPhail b. abt 1819 in Harris, S. Uist. She was the daughter of Donald McPhail and Mary McAskill.
I'd like to know more about these families. what I have heard from other's on the 'net sounds like two McDonald families got mixed in together in an early research, and it's never been corrected. documenting these families has been almost impossible, though I did find Allan's death record. little else exists.
