Macgregor: I have an incomplete family tree started by my grandfather. His father, Rob Roy Macgregor, was born in Newent,Gloucestershire in 1865 and died in Invercargill, New Zealand in 1938.The family came to New Zealand sometime between 1870-1890. Rob Roy's father's name was John Macgregor and his mother was Emma Evans. There were 10 children going by a photograph I have, the youngest was William Wallace Macgregor who went to Australia sometime after 1910. John(1828-1902) served in his Majesty's 85th Light Infantry, it is possible his name was spelt McGregor, and he held the rank of Colour Sergeant. According to the information I have John's father was Benjamin Macgregor(1794-1840).The family story is that we are direct descendants of Robert (Rob Roy)Macgregor of Glengyle(1671-1735) and Mary Helen Mcgregor of Comar through their son Coll who married Margaret McGregor of Glensarnock. Their son John is either Benjamin's father or grandfather. I am endeavouring to clarify the veracity of this. My information from John and Emma on is accurate and verifiable by various family documents. The family house in New Zealand has always been called Craig Royston.
