I am researching the illusive family history of my great grandparents Dr. JAMES SNODGRASS MATHEWS and MARY ANN WILLIAMS of Machynlleth, Montgomeryshire Wales.
Known information:
Dr. JAMES S. MATHEWS
- born in Londonderry, Ireland circa 1846
- became a Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians and Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, July 25, 1873.
-1881 Census:Machynlleth, has him 34years, unmarried living at 37 Maengwyn St. as a lodger with the DAVID JAMES family.
- Dr.MATHEWS marries MARY ANN WILLIAMS ???? There was a single woman, MARY ANN WILLIAMS working in 1881 as a housekeeper in a nearby town... could this have been the same woman?
-1889 July 5 son DAVID JAMES WILLIAM MATHEWS was born.
-1894 April 21 son GORDON KYLE ARMSTRONG MATHEWS was born at home Bank Place, Maengwyn Street, mother MARY ANN MATHEWS formerly WILILAMS.
-1900 daughter MAGLONA MARGARET MATHEWS was born.
-Dr MATHEWS died April 11, 1911 at 14 Pentrerhedyn St. Machynlleth with wife MARY ANN (WILLIAMS) MATHEWS in attendance.

After the death of DR. JAMES S. MATHEWS, MARY ANN (WILLIAMS) MATHEWS and her children immigrate to Winnipeg, Canada. The military Will for DAVID MATHEWS written in 1916 states MARY ANN MATHEWS was a resident of Belmont, Manitoba.

-DAVID J.W. MATHEWS was employed as a Drug Clerk, before enlisting in the Canadian Army, placed with 43rd Canadian Cameron Highlanders and subsequently killed in action Friday October 26, 1917. His name is on the Menin Gate Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium and the Coffar Dewar in Machynlleth, Wales.
-GORDON K.A.MATHEWS worked for the Canadian National Railway, and eventually worked his way across Canada before settling in British Columbia. He died at 84 years old. He has one child LORETTA MATHEWS.
-MAGLONA M. MATHEWS lived her life in Winnipeg, Manitoba unmarried and died there at 53 years old.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions. T.I.A. Lorraine
