My grandmother was a Mullen. The 1st recorded birth of a Mullen in our family is William Mullen in 1680 Middlesex County Virginia. I read an article a few months ago that explains why we were in the U.S. so early and in Virginia. Cromwell sent a bunch of Irish in the North to Cannaught(Sory about spelling.) and some were disenters. Cromwell's officers in Cannaught were complacent. There were these Merchant ships from London and Bristol and they were low on business and needed more traficing. The officers knew that and allowed these discenters to be put on the ships and taken to the Virginia colony and put out on plantations. My very first ancestor before William Mullen of 1680 was an endentured servant. Is it possible that I have very distant relitives in Galway or do the circumstances of Cromwell negate that possibility? How could I try to search for them or would that be impossible?-Melony Verucchi
