I am writing to you in hopes that someone out there might be the same CRANNEY line that I am. I have been trying to find my Cranney family for over two years but because of so many records are missing in Ireland I haven't been able to get any further back than LUKE CRANNEY born in County Down in 1842. Luke must have had brothers and sisters. They might have left Ireland either before or after him or he, hopefully, might still have descendants living in Ireland. I think some of them went to Australia and England. Also, I can not find his parents names. I have written to the Ulster Historical Society over six months ago but still have not heard back from them. PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON THE CRANNEY FAMILY THAT LUKE CAME FROM CONTACT ME. My name is Regina Alta Cranney (go by Ginger). I live at 7062 NY 66, East Nassau, NY 12062. My e-mail is HyTekRedNeck@msn.com. Any information at all that you can provide would be so greatly appreciated.

LUKE CRANNEY was born in County Down, Northern Ireland, in 1842. In December 1868 he married Lucy Hall in Birkenhead. Luke and Lucy moved to Newry, Ireland. There their daughter Mary Anne Cranney was born July 28th 1869. Luke immigrated to America sometime early to mid 1870. He became a citizen of the United States in September 1875 and since you had to reside here for at least five years before you could become naturalized he had to arrive before September 1870. In December 1870 their son LUKE G. CRANNEY was born in Albany, New York. They had five more children after Luke G. Their names were: Lucy born December 1872, James born December 1874, Emily born April 1877, John born May 1879 and Anne born April 1882. All of these children were born in New York. I found Luke and Lucy living in Bethlehem, New York in 1900 (US Federal Census for 1900).
LUKE G. CRANNEY, born December 1870, married Margaret (Maggie) Doyle between July 1892 and May 1893. They lived in Albany, New York for a few years where their daughters Lucy 1893 and Ellie 1896 were born. Luke G. worked as a harness maker on Broadway in Albany. Around 1897-98 they moved to Hartford, Connecticut. There they had four more children. Their names were: William Joseph, born in 1898, Ralph Patrick, born in 1899, ROBERT FRANCIS born June 27th 1901 and Mary, born in 1903. When these children grew up they scattered through the U.S. I don't know what happened to the girls since their last name changed when they got married but I do know that William J. lived in Mannville, Maplewood and Albany, Ralph Patrick married Vera Colvill in Albany, NY and had two sons, Ralph, Jr. and Donald. Ralph left his family and moved to Texas in 1934. Robert Francis, my grandfather, married Celina Elizabeth Wills in Cohoes, NY. Robert and Celina lived in Cohoes, Albany and Menands. I do know that when Robert and Celina divorced Robert remarried and had a daughter Margaret. Robert and Celina four children. JOAN GLORIA CRANNEY (my mother) born January 11th 1925 and died February 1991, Robert Francis 2nd, born July 24th 1926 and died May 1997, Kenneth born April 15th 1928 and died May 1978 and Richard, born in 1930.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. And thank you a thousand times over in advance if you reply.
Ginger Cranney
