Would love to hear from anyone descended from James SLATTERY
and Bridget WHELEAN? whose son - my g g grandfather
Cornelius SLATTERY - was transported per 'Portland (2)'
arriving Sydney Cove June 1833. He and his brother Michael
had been convicted of Manslaughter and sentenced to be
transported for 14 years.
Cornelius had been born about 1810, Michael 1814.
I have not been able to find the townland of their birth
after searching all available records in Australia.
Cornelius' life in Australia is well documented.
I have cutting from the Tipperary Free Press on the day they
were sentenced but no details of their crime are known.
Would love to find out more details of their lives in
Ireland before they were transported.
Regards
Vicki
