I'm searching for my great great grandparents, Michael Mark BARRY and Ellenor (Ellen) MURPHY. A family note says that they were married at St Finbarrs, Cork City, 7 February, 1842.
I don't know whether this is the Church of Ireland cathedral, or a different Catholic church. Could anyone help me with a lookup please?
This would be important to give me their parents and places of residence and ages, as well as religion.
On descendants' certificates in Australia, Michael's occupation is given as "gentleman".
Ellen's parents are given as Christopher MURPHY and Ellen BARRY.
Her date of birth is about 1824;Co, Cork is the only location given on her death certificate.
The story gets more complicated, and, I'm afraid, vaguer. I need help from a kind soul who knows their way
around Irish records, and would enjoy unravelling the puzzle of what happened to them after their marriage.
They at first had 4 children in Cork, John (about 1844), Bridget (about 1845), Patrick (about 1849), Ellen (about 1850),
then emigrated to New York, New York, some time between 1850 and 1856. Does anyone have access to emigrant passenger lists around this time?
They had 3 more children in New York (Honoria about 1856, Michael 1857, Mary 1858), and then the whole family migrated back to Ireland about 1859.
Are there inward passenger lists which would identify this large family group?
They had 2 more children back in Cork (Ann 1860, and Thomas 1862). The family then emigrated to Australia on the LIGHT OF THE AGE,
departing from London on 27 September 1863. But not with Michael Mark, the father. It is presumed he died sometime in 1861,1862,1863.
Are there death lists? I have no idea of location. I can trace the family once they reach Australia, but without definite dates and places,
these earlier activities are a mystery. Please help!
