I am looking for the parents or anyone related to Helen (or Ellen) Nicol who married James (aka " Jamie") Beattie, 19 April 1859, Saint Nicholas, Aberdeen, Scotland. I do not know the birth year for Ellen or her brothers, but have a note she was from a family of 12 children. One possibility is Helen Nicol, christened 17 March 1839, Saint Nicholas, Aberdeen, Scotland. Helen's parents could have been David Nicol and Helen Mennie, and they were married 8 December 1832, Saint Nicholas, Aberdeen, Scotland. This is all from . I can't prove any of this, only speculating at this point.
Ellen (or Helen) Nicol Beattie came to Barre, Vermont (USA) to join her oldest son, James who had left Aberdeen as a granite cutter after her husband James (aka Jamie Beattie)drowned. Jamie was a ship captain who sailed between Aberdeen and Scandinavia. His ship went down in a storm with all hands on board. There we no radio or distress signals in those days. Six months later the compass was found near the Bay of Biscow. Ellen had 3 brothers who were in the British Navy. Peter Nicol spent many years in the British Navy and was on duty in China, but for how long I don't know. Any suggestions will be helpful or how to find someone who served in the British Navy would be greatly appreciated.
