WILLIAM JOHN HARTLEY(b.9 Sep 1894-?): One of my forebears had the surname Hartley. I am trying tofind out more about the Hartley family. There has come down into my possession through my relations a Holy Bible presented to a WJ Hartley by the then Dean of Christ Church, Oxford (Thomas B Strong)onthe occasion of him leaving the Christ Church Cathedral School in 1908. WJ Hartley then attendedSolihull Grammar School from Jan 1909 to July 1910. At that time his parents lived at Avon House,Hockley Heath, Warwickshire. His father, JTB Hartley, was a 'Land Agent'. The descendants of WJ maywell be able to help me elucidate the origins of my maternal granmother, Harriet Hartley (1859-1919), a schoolteacher in Galashiels and Hawick in the Scottish Borders.
