I am researching my wife's grandfather a James Prentice born 1878-1880 I think somewhere in central Scotland. Could have been adopted. His parents are given as Hugh and Elizabeth Saunders.Cannot find details of parents on file. He spent some time in the 1st Bat Seaforth Highlanders in India(1903) before retiring and joining the GPO in Edinburgh in 1908. He was married twice and with his first wife they had a son Major James Prentice who died in Guernsey. He had five children by his second wife Eric,Edward,John,Elizabeth and Sheila. His present surviving elderly children think he was born around Dundee but there are no records for this person with the above parentage in Scotland, England or Ireland. I am very interested in obtaing his birth details. Can anyone help or give suggestions.
