I am looking for James JOHNSTON, born around 1830, Parish of Barony, Lanarkshire. He joined the Scots Fusilier Guards in 1849, and died on 'The Recruiting Service' at Dumfries on 23rd Jan 1866. (Is there anywhere I can look-up Obits for that time?) Unable to find name of his wife. He had two known children Fanny Catherine, who married my GF James Prescott ROBERTS and Henry who also joined the Scots Fusilier Guards in 1875. I received many details of the Military Service of James and Henry from the Archives of the Scots Guards,London. Short on info of James's early life.
