I am researching Peter Cooke also known as Cooney. He arrived on the
Tottenham in 1817. He was sentenced to life according to the
Glouscestershire assizes. He was an apocathary apprentice in London at the
time. He was sentence at the same time as his father James Cooke /Cooney,
who died on the voyage to Australia. It is possible Peter Cooke had a son in
Ireland James, he was approx 7 yrs old. I am not sure if he ever came to
Australia, although Peter Had two son in Australia Named Peter and James,
Mother was Sarah Brackenrig, who came free to Australia. Peter's father
James, was married to a Bridget (?Mcsurne, not able to read surname
properly)I am pretty sure they came from Ireland (Rosscommon). I don't know
what happened to Bridget or if they had any other children. James Cooke was
approximately 40 yrs old in 1817 when he died.
I have traced most of their decendants in Australia but am hoping someone
out there can help as I feel that I have not only come to a brick wall but
am also hitting my head on it.
Leah Cooke
