Wm. Buchanan Sr. was soldier in the English army. Enlisted about time of the battle of Waterloo (for 21 years) served under Wellington. Then after 17 years of his service expired He accepted the offer of discharge, accompanied with a land grant instead of serving his full time and receiving a pension. He was an excellent scholar and bookkeeper and could have been promoted to high positions but for the habit of intemperance.

Went to Canada in 1836 and then to Lee County, IL, USA in 1850.

After scanning the document it appears that he was born 1791 (1741 as I had previously posted) in Sterlingshire, Scotland. Died 5-25-1860

His wife was named Janet.

He had at least 2 sons, William Jr (d. 1860) and
John (Born Dec. 15, 1815, Stirlingshire, Scotland, Died Aug 6, 1906 in USA)

John married Elizabeth Wooley in Dixon, IL in Sept 1835 (?)

This information was taken from family documents.
