FOSTER FAMILY
I am looking for any information relating to my grandfather, Thomas FOSTER or previous generations of the family. The only details I have are that he was said to be Irish of Dutch descent, the family having at some time left Holland because of persecution of the Catholics. Thomas Foster was born abt 1870/78. He settled in England - known to be in Peterborough 1901 and possibly earlier, and from 1904, and definitely until 1937/8, when he died in Wigan, Lancashire.
There was one other relative also in Wigan known only as Great Aunt Polly, but don't know of any others. Nor do I know if the entire family left Ireland at the same time as Thomas. I know this is very little to go on but wondered if there is anyone out there, particularly in Ireland, who might have access to a Census covering the period prior to 1900's, who might be able to come up with some possibilities, although unfortunately to date I have not been able to identify even the area from which he came. Unfortunately exchange rates S.A.Rand to Dollar and Sterling prohibit my researching Census' myself. If anyone can through any light on this 'mystery' I would be extremely grateful
