| Can anyone help me with the search for my Mother's family? My Mother was born to Harriet Ellen Jones in Manchester 24/12/1912 and taken to The Thomas Coram Foundling Hospital to be brought up. Harriet was born in July 1893 in Rhyl to Harriet & Francis Downing Jones. I have found tw siblings in the parish records. John Francis b.1895 & George Downing b.1897. They lived at 12 Greenfield St Rhyl in 1893 and then moved to 15a greenbank High St Rhyl by 1895. Can anyone tell me waht became of this family as my Mother only found out her real name in 1983 and was then too elderly to do any research? They must have been related to the Downing family as the name keeps on being used as a middle name and they even used the surname Downing-Jones for a while and when I went to Rhyl the first grave I saw in the cemetary there was Frank Downing who was a councillor in Rhyl in the 1960's. My Mother's Father must have given a false name as he was married to someone else when he got engaged to my maternal grandmother and was belived to have come from Birmingham. My maternal great grandfather tried to trace him at the time under the name of Jack Lancaster (he was a hairdresser) but had no success. Harriet Ellen's address is given as The Scholl House< Wellington Road. Rhyl at the time of my Mother's birth and this is believed to be her employers address where she was a domestic servant. Unfortunately I found no trace of the the family in rhyl on the 1901 census so they may have moved away or even emigrated. Any information no matter how small would be appreciated. Thanks Mo |
