I am trying to find the connection in Ireland for my gggrandparents-- Joseph Hughes and Mary A. Dempster . They both came from Ireland separately and married in America and had their first son Alexander in Penn. in 1850.
Joseph Hughes died in 1878 and buried in Victor Cemetery in Iowa.
Mary died in 1873 and is also buried in Victor cemetery in Iowa.
Mary A. Dempster came with her parents and siblings from the Port of Belfast and came to Philadephia, USA. on July 6, 1847.
Mary's father was Alexander Hughes 57 at the time of Arrival and his wife Eliza 56 and she died on the ship before if reached America .
Mary's brothers and sisters were--
Mary The Oldest 24
Eliza 22
Alexander19
Martha 13
Joseph 11
John 9
Samuel 9
Blakeley or Blackley 5
Dempster is a Scottish name so I assumed that Mary 's father Alexander was Scottish and they might have come from Northern Ireland.
I don't know Mary's mother's maiden name , but I do know that the records in America say that they were from Ireland.
Joseph Hughes is another story that I can't seem to find the answers .
All that I know about him is that he came from Ireland , but I don't know if he came with family or alone.
By calculations I find that he was born around 1828 or so. I would like to know where he came from and his family.
Can anyone help me?
Joseph and Mary had 10 children and here are their names--
Alexander b. 1850 Penn
Henry b. 1853
Isabella b.1855 in Ohio
John b. 1857b. in Iowa
William b. 1859 in Iowa
Robert b. 1865 in Iowa
Eliza b. 1867 in Iowa
Thomas b. 1839 in Iowa
