I am looking for a possible connection between my 1st generation ggggg grandfather, Andrew GOVAN who came to the USA in about 1745 from Scotland and a christening record for an Andrew GOVANE on 08 OCT 1723 in Bonhill, Dunbarton, Scotland. This shows parents as Donald GOVANE and Helen JOHNSTOUN.
Another record shows a Donald GOVAN and Helen JOHNSTON of Glasgow, Lanark, Scotlant, who had two daughters, Helen and Margaret both christened in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland in 1710 and 1711 respectively. I'm assuming these are the same people, though the names are spelled differently, as my ggggg grandfather Andrew also had sisters (who came to America before him) whose names were Helen and Margaret.
I'm coming to Edinburgh in March 2003, and I'm hoping someone can direct me to the best source for information there. I would possibly like to take a day trip to Glasgow and locate a parish graveyard if possible. I may not have enough time to find what I'm looking for, but I have to try.
Any suggestions?
