I am trying to trace my Ulster Origins. My grandfather William Simpson was from Belfast. He married my grandmother,Elizabeth McQuillan in Dundalk,Co Louth, 29th April 1918.I know that they returned to Williams native Belfast;and that Williams father was named James Simpson.I have a copy of their marriage certificate. For reasons known only to my grandmother, she returned to Dundalk, where my mother was born,May 1930. I suspect that my mother may have had other siblings. If that is so,then I may have cousins in the Belfast,Antrim area.If anyone can help me in any way,I would be so grateful.Through my search I have realised that the name Simpson is very popular in Northern Ireland.(My mother had a memory of her father visiting her when she was six years old)my Godfather confirmed this to me as he was the same age and they all lived in my GGrandparents house.Their names were Felix and Bridget McQuillan.Apparently my GGrandfather did not approve of the marriage between William and Elizabeth as they were from different denominations.
Many Thanks,in anticipation?
Patricia Gibson.
