Several years on and I'm still hoping that somebody can help me with information about my birth father, LEONARD CHARLES SMITH. His surname is a bit of an obstacle but, with more and more people discovering this site every day, I'm hoping that somebody new might have a lead. Leonard was born 91 years ago, so is probably no longer alive. He was, at one time, married to JOYCE ALWYN BROOKING and they lived in Dorset. Leonard worked as a NAAFI Manager and went on to become a Catering Adviser in the Control Commission in Germany. He met my mother, MARGARET CAMPBELL GILLOTT, in Barnsley just after the War and they became engaged. She was unaware that he was also engaged to a Dutch or German girl (LOTTIE) at the same time and that she had had his child. When my mother became pregnant Leonard left the scene, reportedly escaping to South Africa! I may have a whole new family of half-brothers and sisters! I bear Leonard no ill-will but would be fascinated to discover what became of him. I would also like to communicate with his other progeny and find out how this story has affected them. I was lucky enough to have been adopted by the best parents in the world, when I was just 6 weeks old. I was informed of my adoption as soon as I was able to think and I never regretted it for one moment. Others may not have been so fortunate. Please Email me if you can help.
