My grandfather married my grandmother Mary Gemmel Shaw under the name of Thomas Sydney Potter. He was born around 1874 and was working at BAC in Filton in the munitions. He deserted my grandmother and we believe married a woman or at least lived with her, who worked with him. It was later discovered that he was actually Sydney Thomas Hamilton and had other aliases of Parker and Parsons. He was done for bigamy and forgery and we think that he spent some time at some point in Parkhurst Prison on The Isle of Wight.

There is a possibility that he is Sydney Thomas John Hamilton, born in Alverstoke in 1874ish and whose father was John and whose grandfather was Richard. Sydney married Bessie Bound in 1894ish in Plymouth, Devon and they had 3 children by 1901 who were Sydney John, Stanley and Florence Lily. Florence married a Ralph Hopkins in 1920 but the child, Roger, died soon after birth.

Do any of these names ring a bell with anyone out ther? My mother is 84 and would love to know just who her father really was!
