Any information on George Baker, born 1809-1810. George was transported for highway robbery for 14 years arriving in Tasmania in 1838 aboard the Lord William Bentinck and was assigned from Campbelltown to a James Winter as a farm labourer, having been a ploughman prior to conviction. Sentenced at the Suffolk assizes in 1837 at the age of 29, he was a widower at the time. Apparently a native of Rickinghall, Suffolk but this may just have been where he was caught. There is a possibility that children may have been born to this first marriage, but only 1 or 2. George was granted a conditional pardon in 1846 and ticket of freedom in 1852, he remarried at some stage to Mary and had another family. One of their sons, James was born at Cleveland, Tas. between 1857 and 1859. Any information would be appreciated, or shared if someone happens to be tracing a branch of the same family.
Thankyou.
