I am been looking for information about my Grandfather, James Charles Nutt.He was born Dec.15.1885 in Bristol, England. Parents: UNKNOWN.
James came to the United States about 1905. His port of arrival is "Unknown". He resided in, East Branch, New York. He married, Jessie Chrisey. Together, they had six children - Eva, Rena, Henry, Lillian (My mother),Beulah and Beatrice (Died an infant). All, except Beaulah (Whom, is approaching age 90 yrs.) are now deceased.
James died july 14, 1922 at East Branch, New York while attempting to save a young lady, whom, was herself drowning, After getting her to shore, she accidently kicked him in the forehead and he went under the water and drowned. His widow, Jessie was given The "Andrew Carnegie Hero's Medal" on his behalf.
Not much more is known about him as all of the children were very young when he died. Their mother, Jessie (His Wife) passed away approximately three years later, in 1925. All of the children were seperated, and were "farmed out" to other families, that were not related. I never knew my grandparents as I was born in 1935.
Once, when I was aboui 12 yrs old, my aunt Rena, told me that James (Her Father), had told her,(As best she could remember, but she was not positive about the names) he had parents, and a brother Douglas, and a sister, Louisa living back in Bristol. He said that he intended to take his family back to Bristol to live as he loved and missed England, and his family there. Of course, this did not happen, due to his untimely death.
As far as is known, his family in Bristol never knew what had became of him.
I have always been very sad that I did not know much about my Heritage. Nothing would ever give me more satisfaction and pleasure than to learn the names of my Great Grandparents and all other family members. And of course, the ultimate joy -would be to learn of living relatives still residing in England, or elsewhere.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to anyone who may have, and will be kind enough to send me any information they may know about James Charles Nutt and/or his family.
