I am trying to unravel a family mystery I have found. I have been researching my HANSON family and have recently found that my family may actaully be GRAY / GREY'S. My great grandfather always went by the name of (Herbert) John William HANSON. I found a marriage record for his sister, Julia, who married a Frank VALLIS in 1896. The record lists her maiden name as Julia Ann GRAY. Her father was listed as James GRAY a deceased soldier. One of the witnesses, who I always thought was her father Edward HANSON & his sister in law Nancy Sarah HANSON. I then found a birth record for a brother George Edmund HANSON born 1877, that says his mother was Margaret HANSON late GRAY formerly PRESCOTT. As a result of these records I have come to the conclusion I formerly stated. I believe that James GRAY was in the British ARMY, possibly the 5th and the 25th Regiments of Foot, and may have passed away while serving in India. The following I beleive to be his children: John born in Colombo, Ceylon in 1868. Julia born in Barielly India in 1870. They had a sister Clara, or possibly half sister, born in Aden Camp Col, in 1876. I am guessing that James GRAY would have been born around the 1840's as Margaret PRESCOTT was born in 1846. I have no idea where he was born, possibly the Lancashire area, as Margret was born in Leigh , Lancashire. Margaret at some point married Edward HANSON and they had other children as I mentioned. George Edmond in 1877, Charles Henry 1880, Herbert Campbell 1885, Richard Arthur 1887.
Any information on these people would be appreciated.
