I am looking to trace Jon Davidson, a friend of mine who I met selling artwork on the streets of Chester in 2001. Jon lived homeless for a long time, making a living by selling his artwork- which was of a surreal, experimental nature- on the streets of various cities and towns. His travels, I believe, took him all over Britain and also to Ireland and Spain. He would correspond with me regularly by mail and telephone, sharing much in-depth conversation with me, and sending me his work.
I last heard from Jon in December 2002. By this time he was now using the name Samuel Tolfree and was seemingly suffering a kind of schizophrenic breakdown, believing he was being followed and conspired against by feminist journalists. He was becoming severely insecure and frightened when I last heard from him, and for this reason, along with the abrupt discontinuation of his contact with me, I fear he may no longer be alive. He told me that he had had several brief stays in psychiatric hospitals around the time, and apparently caused a sensation while staying in Campsall, South Yorkshire.
Jon and I shared much in-depth correspondence via mail and telephone, and I would be grateful to anyone who could help me find what happened to him after we lost touch and if he is okay. I believe he was brought up down South- possibly from a rich family. The only acquaintance of his whom I know the name of is his godfather Steven Gorton, who resided in Penrith, Cumbria, at the time.
Jon is of average height, with short black hair (at the time), slim and firm build, and was easily recognisable by his erratic, fast-paced and overwhelmingly well-spoken speech patterns. I would be grateful to hear from anyone who knows or knew Jon, or any of his relatives, or anyone who may have seen or met him selling his work on the street or bought his artwork during the period of 2001-2 (he may have been using the name Samuel Tolfree). I would be eternally grateful to anyone who feels they could provide me with any information or point me in the right direction towards finding him. |
