Trying to trace earlier ancestors of my Gt Grand
Father John McKillop and wife Agnes.Left Liver-
pool about 1860 for Tobago as Chief Engineer for
Timber Pantation company John McCall Co. Eventu-
ally they went to Trinidad where John at 68 and
his Wife (age unknown) both passed away in 1900 .
Believe John McKillop's ancestors originated in
Brae Lochaber, Invernesshire possibly Duncan McKillop (1755-1830) married to Mary MacDonald (1762-1839)in 1796. John was born in Liverpool in 1832 but I've no details at all on his wife Agnes other than they married in 1856. they had two sons:John Wm Mckillop born 1862 Liverpool?
who later read Chemistry at Owens College (now Manchester Uni) and Wm Alexander McKillop born in Tobago 1869 who became Chief Engineer to we think the Alfred Holt Shipping Line operating out of Liverpool. There was also a daughter (name unknown) who apparently married a Captain Bullock of the West Indian & Pacific Steamship Co - no more known.
Other scottish ancestors on the McKillop side
include Alexander and Flora McKillop who in 1837 emigrated to Australia where Mary McKillop was born near Melbourne. She has been beatified by the Pope and it's hoped will be cannonised soon becoming Australia's First Saint!
