| I'm looking for my brother RICHARD SIMON MAIN born in Newcastle; June 6th 1966 or 1968 (I was led to believe initially it was 1966, though I since have had information which has led me to believe it may be 1968). My mum had Richard in the 60's while she was a teenager. As a result, she was sent to an unmarried mother's home in Benwell, in the NE until she had the baby,which apparently was adopted some weeks later. I have tried many avenues to trace him- apparently all the records of unmarried mothers at the home at this time were destroyed in a fire at the home. Local social services acnnot help me, neither can the Salvation Army who i know dealt with the adoption, as I am 'only' a sibling, not a birth parent. I even contacted all the 'Mains' on the electoral register a couple of years back but had little response. After my mum had Richard she got married to my dad, had my sister and me before getting getting divorced. I am now 33 and have known about my brother for the last 5 or 6 years and find it infuriating that I cannot seem to get help from any avenue- Please,if anyone else was at the home at that tme (and I know there were quite a few- there was in fact a television programme on about the home a year or so ago), and can give me any advice or information I would be so grateful. |
