My father Alfred Ernest Yates was born on 19th April 1910 in Rusholme Manchester. They were at this time living at 10 Victoria St, Rusholme but moved a couple of years later to 5 Victoria St Rusholme. My Grandfather, Henry Yates, died December 26th 1913. Alfred's brother died in 1915 aged 11. Both were residing at number 5. I have my Grandfather's death certificate. He died at the age of 80, he was a retired joiner. My Grandmother Eleanor Blurton Yates died approximately 1926. I do have her death certificate. Maidan name Rogers My grandmother the above name was 31yrs in 1903 when she married my grandfather Henry Yates he was 80yrs. I have now got them. My father's death certificate states that he died on 14 May 1986. His last address was Flat 17, 5 Queensborough Terrace, Westminster London W2. He was a retired hotel caretaker. I do know that Alan and Patricia Hall paid for his burial plot; they lived at 33 Westbourne Terrace W2. They paid for a plot for 2. Was this the usual practice? He was buried 15 miles away. My mother and father were never married. I did meet up with my mother 16 years ago in S.Africa but she was unwilling to discuss her past. She has now died of Alzheimer's. I have a gut feeling that I have got relatives on my father's side. I have been searching for 45 years and never got to meet my father. The last thing that was recorded about him was in 1947. I have no idea what happened to him between then and 1986. How can a man vanish into thin air??? If there is anyone out there who is willing to give assistance I would be eternally grateful.

Hello, what I am going to write is going to take guts but I will have a go. MY father Alfred Ernest Yates who was born in Manchester in 1910. He was an ace jewel thief. He escaped from many prisons. Walton , Lewes, Dartmoor to name but a few. They called him: THE MAN NO PRISON COULD HOLD. Do any of you older readers or your grandfathers remember him? He was in all the national newspapers under differant names. Mostly Stanley Thurston. To my amazement I found out that a film had been made about his early life he featured as its star, under the name of Charles Stuart his actors name. It was directed by Alfred Goulding at Marylebone Studios. It was called. THE DARK ROAD. A hammer film. On one accasion, during the filming the cast went on strike because they resented his success as an actor and envied the suave handsome appearance that he presented on the screen. The one thing I found was they did not portray the whole facts! In those days they glossed over it. There are lots more I could tell you but it does not get me any nearer to finding out if I have any other relations or even more brothers and sisters. I hope this may help you to understand me a little more and why I have still not found anybody connected to my father ie YATES. HALL OR ANYBODY THAT SHOULD REMEMBER MY FATHER.
