I am searching for my half brother who was born in California in the 1940s. The story goes that while on leave from the U.S. Navy, my Dad, Alexander Krause from Chicago, IL (born 10/8/16) fathered a son in California. I was born in August 1947 after my parents married in Chicago, IL, so my half-brother would have been born prior to my birth. I have very little to go on. I don't know the mother's name nor the city where her son was born. It was probably near a Naval base since my Dad was in the Navy. I don't know if she gave her son my father's surname or if she gave her son her own maiden name. I don't even know if she listed my father's name as her son's natural father. As life moved forward, there is a good possibility that the woman married and her husband adopted her son and gave him his surname.
The mother of the child supposedly tried to reach my father in Illinois after my parents were married. She sent a letter to my Dad, but my mother intercepted it and wrote back to her telling her that my Dad was now married--she should move on with her life--he was an SOB to live with so she was better off without him anyway--and that was the end of communication. I just spoke with my Dad's 80-year-old sister recently, and she said the woman had tried to reach my Dad through her via phone a couple of times, but the sister did not want to mess up my parents' marriage, so she told the woman nothing and hung up on her.
