| We are looking for the parents of Stephen Issac Newman Per death cert. he was born 14 Feb 1835 in GIBRALTAR and died 31 Aug 1921 in Cambridge Mass. USA. This is the family story. He was born while father was on active duty in English military. His mother died, so his father could keep him with him he enlisted Stephen as a drummer boy. Stephen Issac Newman was a Brigade Band leader in civil war in US. so story has some merit. I have found him in 1880 census and several later census. Another story his mother was Spanish. That would explain the beautiful black hair with vivid blue eyes my Dad (Stephen's grandson) had. |
