If someone could please help, I have been researching my family line for sometime and no mater where I go I come to a dead end.The family came to PEI in 1803 onboard the Polly from Isle of Skye, Scotland. The name of the Mother was Nancy(Gillies)Ross (1756). Her Husbands name was Ewen Ross (1755)who at time had died previously.Both as far as I know were also born at Kilmuir Parish. I have found stories where he was a member of Napolian's forces and was actually killed in the Battle of The Nile in 1798. The story refers to him as being a Captain but I have never documented this as proven. All I know for sure is that he had died previous to his family leaving Isle of Skye. To my knowledge the Family had lived at Kilmuir Parish prior to leaving. The other members of the family that accompanied the mother were Donald (1784),John B. (1780), Ann (1785), Hugh (1788), Angus (1790), Flora (1793), Murdock (1794) and an unknown daughter born 1798.
One daughter whom did not accompany the family and stayed in Scotland was Catherine Ross (1782) who had actually married a Samuel Martin from Isle of Skye. They had several children but 1 daughter , I believe named Catherine had also left Isle of Skye in later years to follow her Mothers family to PEI. She had married a John MacPherson but I am not sure if that was in Isle of Skye or PEI. As far as I know all siblings were born at Kilmuir Parish in Isle of Skye |
