Looking for help - Frederick J. DUKE born 1872-3.

A friend's ancestor was a scholar in the 1881 census at the Dwelling: Fir Tree Road Kensington & Chelsea Dist School, Census Place: Ewell, Surrey, England.
Source: FHL Film 1341179 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 0762 Folio 135 Page 3.

What sort of school WAS this - the number of staff in 1881 was quite large, and so were the number of pupils, both male and female. ??

Can anyone supply the name and email address of the local Public Library in the EWELL, SURREY area, or of the Archives where information can be obtained regarding the whereabouts of the REGISTER of ADMISSIONS AND DISCHARGES in that time frame. The puzzlE is WHY WAS THIS CHILD PLACED IN THIS SCHOOL and when was he admitted and subsequently discharged. The child, Frederick J DUKE, born in 1872-3 was well educated, and became a musician (a trumpeter).

THANKS FOR ANY HELP IN THIS REGARD. SINCERELY. BERYL WILSON berylwilson@rogers.com
